Iran successful in preparing world heritage cases: UNESCO official

Esther Kuisch Laroche referred to preparing tourism strategic planning and holding cultural heritage workshops as the most important cultural programs of UNESCO by the end of 2016.

She added that a tourism strategy as well as a workshop on underwater cultural heritage is to be held in partnership with Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO).

She referred to holding a workshop for reporters on cultural conventions as other important training programs of UNESCO, adding that holding a workshop on water and media fields and programs with the focus on sustainable development purposes is among subjects before us.

He referred to commemorating World Science Day for Peace and Development on November 10 as the most important program in science field by UNESCO office in Tehran.

'The World Heritage Committee consists of 22 countries so this is not the UNESCO secretariat but it is the committee which decides about each nomination whether or not they are accepted,' she said.

'UNESCO Cluster Office in Tehran covers 4 countries namely Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan and we cover activities in education, culture, science and communication,' she added.

Regarding Yazd city which was introduced by Iran as the first world city, she said that 'each country has its own nomination and each year Iran also places its heritage sites in the list and every two years a proposal is issued to UNESCO and then we send some independent experts to come and check the sites and experts report to the World Heritage Committee and give their advice.'
