Iran, UNESCO stress deepening of scientific, cultural cooperation

Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology for educational affairs Mojtaba Shariati Niasari in a Saturday meeting with Assistant-Director General for Education of UNESCO Qian Tang expressed Iran's readiness to share experiences with other countries, especially through UNESCO.

'Over 55,000 foreign students and about 900,000 Afghan students are studying in Iran which is unique in the world,' he said.

Shariati also pointed to the role of UNESCO office in Tehran to develop cooperation between both sides.

'Iran is ready to grant some scholarships to those who are eligible in oppressed countries,' Shariati noted.

Meanwhile, Tang referred to international educational goals as a principle, saying UNESCO member-states will be able to take advantage of these principles considering their national strategies and internal conditions.

He also extended UNESCO readiness in transferring Iran's experiences in educational field to other countries.
