Iranian, African studies departments planned

In a meeting with the country's deputy minister of culture and arts, Abuzar Ebrahimi-Torkaman said that establishing cultural ties with other countries is the duty of the organization.

Iran's cultural relations with South Africa are strong and improving, he said, appreciating Rejoice Mabudafhasi's activities in the field of culture and her interest in Iran and its culture.

In today's world, the issue of cultural ties is among the serious topics requiring further attention, Ebrahimi said, noting that for the same reason, efforts are underway to get the agreement on cultural exchanges between Iran and South Africa signed and implemented at the earliest.

Hoping that Iranian studies would be promoted in South Africa, he said, 'We are ready to establish Iranian studies departments in South African universities and African studies departments in Iranian reputable universities.'

Mabudafhasi, for her part, said that this is the fourth time she is visiting Iran, noting that given her attitude towards Iran and its culture, she considers herself an honorary citizen of Iran in all her cultural activities.

The African official also hoped that the two countries' cultural exchanges agreement would be signed during the visit of the country's president to Iran in earlier 2016.
