Iranian Children Book to Be Taught in German Schools

Following the book’s translation into German and its subsequent selection as book of the month by the Academy of Children’s and Youth Literature in Germany in 2013, Shodjaie’s children picture book "What If the Snowman wouldn’t melt?” , was taught in a number of schools in Germany for three months. The successful results of the three-month trial resulted in Shojaei’s book to be listed among the books taught in all schools in Germany for students between 7 to 12 years old.
This illustrated story tells the tale of a snowman built by the children in a village from the very first snow of the winter. It soon becomes apparent that the snowman is a dictator who orders the village inhabitants around and gets rid of the seasons. A quietly illustrated using matt tone, this story is an intelligent and critical examination of the relationship between power and powerlessness.
What If the Snowman Wouldn’t Melt?  was first published by Neyestan Publishing House in 2011, written by Seyed Ali Shojaei and llustrated by Elaheh Taherian.
It was released as a bilingual Persian-German text published by Baobab Verlag 2013 in Switzerland.
This book also received the Children’s Book Award (2011) in Iran.
