Head of the RICHT Public Relations Office Hassan Basafa said that the exploration operations were made jointly by the Iranian and French archeologists in three hills near the northeastern city of Nishabour in Khorasan Razavi Province.
Basafa, also the head of the exploration operations, said the drillings provide answers to many questions concerning archeology in Khorasan Razavi Province.
He said major objectives of the exploration operations included completion of the ancient identity of Neishabour and Khorasan, surveying cultural activities of the province and its neighboring areas, including “Yaz Tappeh” in Turkmenistan, studying the living economy of the people of Neishbour in the Iron Age and training expert forces in archeology.
Basafa added the excavations are conducted with the cooperation of an archeological team comprising Iranian and French professionals. In addition, he noted, 30 archeology seniors at Neishabour University are cooperating with the team.
He further remarked that the three hills include a central hill with an approximate height of nine meters and a number of satellite hills surrounding it, which dates back to the second and first millennium BC, which is considered the Iron Age.
According to the official, the hills are situated in southeast of the central part of Neishabour Plain near the village of Noroozabad.
