Iranian Gov't Approves Iran-Portugal Cooperation

The government approved that the Iranian Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry can sign cooperation pacts between Iran and Portugal in cultural, linguistic, scientific, sports and tourism fields in coordination with Iranian vice-president's office for legal affairs and foreign ministry.
The Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri notified the country's culture and Islamic guidance and foreign ministries of the approval.
In June 2014, Iran and Portugal signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in cultural areas in a bid to open a new chapter in their bilateral ties.
In late January 2015, Iranian, Iranian Culture Minister Ali Jannati and Portuguese Foreign Minister Rui Machete, in a meeting in Tehran, said that both Tehran and Lisbon are keen to boost their relations, particularly in the cultural fields.
"There is a solid base for expansion of bilateral relations and the two countries can promote their all-out cooperation in the next years,” Jannati said.
Jannati also said Iran is ready to expand bilateral relations in different fields such as exchange of academic delegations, holding cultural exhibitions, and utilizing the two countries' cultural potentials.
He invited Portuguese film makers to participate in Fajr Film Festival which is held in Tehran annually in February.
The Portuguese foreign minister, for his part, called for implementation of articles of the signed cultural agreement.
