Iranian research center working on world classic books about cultural studies

“Cultural studies have found their way into the country over the past 10 years and students interested in this field have faced major problems in accessing original texts and their Persian translations,” team supervisor Mohammad Rezaii said in a press release published on Monday.

Most books written by experts in this field have not yet been translated into Persian, he added, according to Tehran Times.

The center has chosen a number of books written by founders and experts on cultural studies for translation, he added.

“Culture and Society” by Raymond Williams is being translated into Persian by Ahad Aliqolian, and Nahal Nafisi is working on a Persian translation of “The Interpretation of Cultures” by Clifford Geertz.

“Folk Devils and Moral Panics” by Stanley Cohen, “The Long Revolution” by Raymond Williams, “The Hard Road to Renewal” by Stuart Hall and “Policing the Crisis” by Stuart Hall, Chas. Critcher, Tony Jefferson, John Clarke and Brian Roberts are among the other books undergoing the process of translation.

Also included are “The Uses of Literacy” by Richard Hoggart, “The Meaning of Style” by Dick Hebdige, “The Making of the English Working Class” by E. P. Thompson and “Learning to Labor” by Paul E. Willis.
