Iranian researcher invited by IPBES for writing global report on environment

Mostafa Panahi, the Iranian researcher, has also been tasked to work on one of the seven chapters of the report. He is in charge of reviewing the assessment report on the Asia-Pacific region.

“Given the difficult and complex procedures involved in getting selected by the IPBES, I deem obtaining such a position a matter of great proud for Iran,” Panahai said.

The main objective of the ‘global assessment on biodiversity and ecosystem services’ is the presentation and analysis of the latest scientific findings about the global status of biodiversity and ecosystem services. The report will be officially published by 2017 by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), which is placed under the auspices of four United Nations entities: UNEP, UNESCO, FAO and UNDP and administered by UNEP.

The IPBES secretariat is hosted by the German government and located on the UN campus, in Bonn. The organization cites its mission as to strengthen the science-policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, long-term human well-being and sustainable development.
