Iranian researchers design software to monitor solar power plants

The designers of the software are researchers of a new technology-based firm (NTBF) located in a science and technology park in the northern Iranian province of Semnan, IRNA reported.

Using the software, any individual or company managing a solar power plant can troubleshoot problems in the factory.

Sepideh Sanatgaran, the representative of the NTBF’s Board of Directors, said the software is, in fact, a private system which can be used after the power plant was built.

“The software is capable of monitoring and measuring electricity generation by power plants, assessing the environmental and non-environmental circumstances and detecting any problem in producing electricity and transmitting it to local electricity companies.”

She noted that in addition, all information pertaining to a solar power plant can be saved by this software and easily accessed later.

Sanatgaran said this software also enables users to compare the performance of their power plant, in terms of electricity generation, with that of similar nearby or distant plants.

Currently, she noted, some 100 companies are using the software, adding 15,000 people have submitted requests to purchase it.

Energy production plays a key role in development of countries. Today, to get rid of the environmental damages caused by energy generation through burning fossil fuels, most countries are working on expanding their their renewable energy generation capacity.

At present, generation of renewable energy account for 2.8 percent of the world’s total energy production.

Solar energy is a very important source of renewable energy generation. Currently, China, Japan, Germany and the US meet up to 18 percent of their energy needs through renewables.

Iran has a very good capacity for generating solar energy as the country has sufficient sunlight 300 days per year.
