Iranian students shine at intl. chemistry, physics Olympiads

The 50th edition IChO was underway on July 19 to 29 and jointly hosted by Slovakia’s Bratislava and Czech Republic’s Prague where Iranian students, including Behzad Saiedi, Arshia Khademi, Mehdi Jafarzadeh and Mohammad Hassan Sharifnia managed to grab 4 silver medals. Some 300 students from 78 different countries have participated in the event.

IChO is an annual competition for the world’s most talented chemistry students at the secondary school level. Students are tested on their chemistry knowledge and skills in a five-hour laboratory practical and five-hour written theoretical examination that are held on separate days with the practical examination usually being before the theoretical examination.

At the 49th edition of International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), Hadi Azizi, Shervin Khalafi, Amirhossein Bariri gained silver medals while Arshia Afzal and Mobin Moradi received bronze. The event kicked off on July 21 in Portugal’s Lisbon and wrapped up on July 29.

The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is an annual competition in physics for secondary school students, aiming at promoting physics and the development of international contacts in physics education. It involves individual theoretical and experimental competitions in physics.
