Iranians produce nanostructured self-cleaning fabrics

According to Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC), the research studied the effect of pre-plasma treatment on the adsorption of titanium dioxide nanoparticles and its stability properties on polyester fabrics. Results showed that this process is very effective in modifying self-cleaning properties of the fabrics and in the stabilization of the properties. The surface of polyester fabrics are modified through plasma treatment, and more nanoparticles are adsorbed by the fabrics. As a result, the durability of the nanoparticles increases on the fabrics.

Various chemicals are usually used to modify stability properties during the completion process on fabrics. Some of the chemicals are hazardous and expensive. In addition, stability properties treatment is carried out by using water in a long period. However, surface modification can be obtained through plasma treatment in a short time without using water or other chemicals. Moreover, plasma treatment increases the quality of completion process on the fabrics.

In general, plasma treatment decreases costs, increases operation speed, reduces price and decreases side effects and it is a green method.

Results of the research have been published in Micro & Nano Letters, vol. 10, issue 8, 2015, pp. 408-413.
