Khayyam bust installed at Baghdad University

Iran's Culture Center in Iraq, in coordination with Sa'di Foundation, will unveil the sculpture in a ceremony attended by Iranian and Iraqi officials, IRNA wrote.

The bust of Khayyam was installed next to the bust of Allameh Hussein Ali Mahfouz, founder of Persian Language Department in Baghdad University.

Monuments of Omar Khayyam can be seen in Tehran, Dushanbe, Bucharest, and Ashkhabad.

Khayyam was born in the 11th century CE in northeastern Iran. He is widely considered to be one of the most influential scientists of the Middle Ages. He was also a philosopher, astronomer and mathematician.

Khayyam owes his lasting fame mainly to his Rubaiyat — four-line verses of wisdom. He is also known as the author of the most accurate of all calendars in Iran.
