Malaysian university to launch Persian language major

Abbas Qanbari Baghestan added that Persian language will be taught at the masters and Ph.D. levels from the next semester, IRNA wrote.

UPM will be the first Malaysian university in which Persian language will be taught as a major, he noted.

Organized by Iran's Scientific Center in East Asia, the Persian Language Chair was launched last year by sending a Persian language professor to the UPM.

The official added the move will attract more Persian language lovers to study the language in eastern Asia and ASEAN region resulting in greater familiarity with Iran's ancient culture and civilization among ASEAN member states.

On average, 10 foreign languages are taught in each main Malaysian university, thus teaching Persian language can be a turning point for development.
