March 14 named Int’l Mathematics Day

He made the remarks while pointing to the role of the scientific heritage of the renowned Iranian mathematician, late Maryam Mirzakhani and three other female mathematicians in naming the document.

Gholami stated that the Executive Council of UNESCO, in its 205th session, given to the role of mathematics in progress and advances of other sciences, named March 14 as the International Day of Mathematics.

The Minister of Science called the goal of naming the International Day of Mathematics to widely publicize the activities in the field of mathematics throughout the year, and said, “In the document on the International Mathematics Day which refers to the scientific heritage of Maryam Mirzakhani and three other female mathematicians, women's constructive role in the development of mathematics has been emphasized, and referred to as models for knowledgeable women and girls in all societies.
