Mirhadi nominated for Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2017

This is the second time that Mirhadi has being nominated for the prestigious award.

IRHCL, Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IDCYA), and Children's Book Council the institutes which are eligible to nominate for the award from Iran, Mehr News Agency reported.

Mirhadi is the founder of Children's Book Council and a professor of children's literature. She was also the founder and the head of Farhad Kindergarten which later became Farhad Elementary School (named after Touran's brother) 25 years before the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Since 1980, she had been leading Children and Young Adult Encyclopedia Project in Children's Book Council. During more than 50 years of educational activities, she championed Iran's children's literature toward growth and innovation.

Astrid Lindgren is one of Sweden's most important authors. Her works have been translated into more than 90 languages. She renewed children's literature and combined artistic integrity with commitment to the rights of children and young people.

Lindgren died in 2002 at the age of 94, but her stories will live forever. To honor her memory and to promote interest in children's and young adult literature around the world, the Swedish government founded an international award in her name, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
