National commission for UNESCO, Tehran Municipality to expand social, cultural co-op

The secretary general of the commission Hojjatollah Ayoubi and the deputy Tehran mayor for social and cultural affairs Valiollah Shojapourian discussed ways to increase cultural and social cooperation during a joint meeting held on Monday.

The agreement pivots on expansion of joint cultural, educational and scientific cooperation in line with implementation of regional, national and international programs, Fars quoted Shojapourian as saying.

Boosting preparedness against natural disasters, developing communication technology, addressing social vulnerabilities, promoting entrepreneurship and peaceful urban life, strengthening socio-cultural interactions were the other subjects of the MOU, he added.

It also focuses on holding joint events on the occasion of national and international days, holding celebrations, festivals and rituals and other artistic and cultural programs both inside and outside the country in order to strengthen the Islamic-Iranian identity and confront cultural invasion, he mentioned.

The MOU aims to coordinate seminars and training courses to enhance social awareness in order to promote citizenship culture, eliciting more participation of teens, youth and women in social, cultural and educational activities, conducting joint research projects, studies and training courses on the related fields, translating and publishing books and magazines in related fields, and strengthening and empowering the vulnerable groups are some of the programs which are being held within the framework of the newly signed MOU, he added.
