National Libraries of Iran, Qatar sign MoU

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on the sidelines of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) Meeting in Singapore on Wednesday, Director of National Library of Iran (NLI) Ashraf Boroujerdi said during her trip to Qatar and after making visit to the national library, College of Sharia & Islamic Studies and Qatar Foundation, the MoU was signed.

The MoU is aimed at promoting cooperation grounds and to let manuscripts facilitate interactions with the Qatari bodies.

Developing mutual cooperation in Iranology and Islamic studies, establishing new line to transfer Persian and Arabic manuscripts electronically, transferring digital technologies and promoting library services were among articles of the MoU.

The National Library of Iran is located in Tehran, Iran, with several branches scattered throughout the city. Prior to the library's official inauguration in 1937, other libraries existed that performed the same function informally.

Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development is a semi-private chartered, non-profit organization in Qatar, founded in 1995 by then-emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and his second wife Moza bint Nasser.
