According to the Public Relations of Qom’s Education Provincial Office, Hojjat-ol Islam Dr. Mohammadian head of OERP, General Manager of Qom’s Education Office and some of the staffs had a meeting with Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi.
Referring to some subversion in the society against educational plans, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said: Unfortunately our society is full of suspicions and one should be more cautious, so that suspicions would not ruin the objectives.
There are three groups among political wings in our country, distressed religious group, passives and some are against religion and consider it an obstacle against political development, so when compiling textbooks and educational contents, you must watch these three groups.
Mentioning that some of teachers and professors are affected by the western culture, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi added: unfortunately some are petrified by west. Before Islamic Revolution they use to say Iranians cannot develop unless they devote themselves body and soul to the west and today some are trying to do the same just slyly through teaching and that is why you should be more concern on recruiting dedicated teachers.
There are three elements of Book, Teacher and Planning involved in training students, he remarked and continue: Sometimes books and plans are fine but the teachers is not what he is supposed to be or wise versa; sometime a good teacher can play a very important role in fortifying students’ religious beliefs, as it happened for myself, a Physics teacher was the one who encouraged me to enter the seminary. He was quite familiar with religious concepts and related them to us too.
This religious leader declared: There are western books designed to insert their culture in Islamic society and sometimes not being aware of this tactic, we translate and send them in our community. I came across a book about sociology with just one page in it about religion and that single page concludes that religion is originated from fear and ignorance of mankind.
Any changes in textbooks should be mentioned in prologue or post script, he continued; sometimes you need to remove an article and move it to another chapter and some may think that this particular subject is deleted. Therefore such notifications are necessary.
In another part of his speech, Ayatollah Makarem Shorazi indicated sensitivity of preparation of textbooks and said: There are three surroundings effective on children’s’ training, home, school and community. Inadequacy of any of these three will create a burden on other two. Considering expansion of destructive cyberspaces and parents’ lack of time, it makes schools’ duties yet more sensitive.
He concluded: we have a rule and it emphasize that one must try to fulfil his duty, no matter how hard the obstacles on the way are and so, you should continue your way and do not be intimidated by sarcasms and threats.
