No to illiteracy

According to a Mehr correspondent, Ali Bagherzadeh, in a television program said that over the last 50 years the concept of literacy has been constantly developed, and at least in the past 10 years, international institutions in the definition of literacy have pointed out several key words that plurality of literacy which includes economic, cultural, informational, political and social literacy are among them.

He added that civic participation and health improvement are also highlighted in the definition of literacy, and recently the discussion on exposure to the growing environment in the technological environment has been raised in the adult education recommendation. A literate person must be able to solve his personal, social and economic problems in this environment, and every skill, ability, and ability to help a person make a better life in the context of the definition of literacy.

He also said that one of the most important methods used in our country and most countries of the world is the general population censuses and housing, which is conducted by the Statistics Center. Another commonly used method is the use of database registries. The base is well-formed, where all major public education centers are connected.

He added that the third method is the assessment of literacy that is usually carried out in some countries which is costly, where people participate in the standardized tests. However, the groundwork of implementation of this method has not yet been provided in Iran.  Adding that in year 1355, 47.5% were literate. The number rose to 61.8% in 1365, in 1375 to 79.5%, to 84.6% in 1385 years, to 90.8% in 1390, and to 87.6% in 1395.

About the compulsory education in the country, he said, “we have proposed a plan to government and was approved in 1394, and paragraph 4 stipulates that since the beginning of the year 1395, anyone who wants to obtain a license must be educated.

The head of the Literacy Movement said about the causes of rising illiterate rates in the past decade: “However, you should keep in mind that the population has increased from 27 to 68 million in these years, and economic problems have also grown, and the reasons for parents to bring their children to school has been diversified. On the other hand, the literacy rate of adults in the world is low.”
