Official calls for expanding Russia-Iran cultural ties

He made the remarks in a meeting with Head of Culture and Islamic Relations Organization Abuzar Ebrahimi Torkaman on Tuesday.

Stepanov assessed the level of cultural interactions between the two countries as 'good', and called for development of cooperation in the fields of culture and art.

He reiterated the need for implementation of agreements already reached between Iran and Russia, and urged the two countries to constantly hold cultural weeks in each other's cities.

Torkaman, for his part, underlined the expansion of cultural cooperation and development of bilateral ties, and said that accompanied with politico-economic relations, development of cultural ties should be increased simultaneously.

Head of Culture and Islamic Relations Organization (CIRO) pointed to recent visit of Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky to Iran, and said that one of his valuable works had been translated in Persian and will be unveiled soon.

Torkaman said holding cultural week will pave the way for getting more acquainted with each other's cultures, adding that CIRO has held over 10 rounds of religious talks between Iran and Russian Orthodox Christian Church.

He expressed Iran's readiness to participate in the 7th International Cultural Conference of Saint Petersburg and compiling new cultural agreement between the two countries.
