One Million Historical, Ancient Sites in Country

Speaking to IRNA after an inspection tour of tourism attractions in Meshgin Shahr, Masoud Soltanifar said out of the figure, 150 thousand have been in the past century.
He further remarked that so far, 2 thousand sites have been registered in the national list and 17 in the UNESCO world list which include the historical complex of Sheikh Sefieddin Ardebili.
The official said that the case of Sabalan Mountain as the most beautiful mountain of Iran is under study and will be forwarded to UNESVO in a near future.
Soltanifar is in Meshgin Shahr for the opening of the suspended bridge of the city which is the largest bridge in the Middle East with a height of 80 meters over Khiav Chai River.
Meshgin Shahr with a population of 170 thousand is situated in northwest of Ardebil and possesses many historical sites such as a fort, a carvanserrai, a tomb and a number of old bathrooms as well as mineral water.
Scores of ancient and historical sites which date back to about eight thousand years ago are located in this city.
