Over 1,000 foreigners licensed to educate in Mazandaran

Ghoramali Karimpour said on Saturday that pupils and student population of foreigners in the province has been increased, adding that last year, 1,024 foreign citizens with the permission of the General Directorate of Foreign Nationalities of the province were able to study at provincial educational centers.

Karimpour added, 'Under the law, only foreigners can study in Mazandaran with credible credentials such as passports or identity cards.'

He said that the majority of foreign students enrolled in Mazandaran schools are citizens of Afghanistan, noting foreign students who are legally resident in the province, regardless of their nationality, can refer to the General Directorate of Foreign Nationalities, to get a license to study.

According to the official statistics of the governorate of Mazandaran, more than 3,300 Afghan citizens live legally in the province. These people have an immigration card or a visa.

Mazandaran province has been banned from 2012 on the basis of the Supreme National Security Council's decision to host the nationals of the countries of Afghanistan and Iraq, and only those who can reside in the province who have an Iranian mother, an Iranian spouse or are investors.
