According to IRNA, Hossein Molla-Abdollahi referred to Iran-Serbia political, economic and cultural relations and said, "Currently, more than 220 students are studying the language at Belgrade University."
Speaking in a meeting between Iranian expatriates in Serbia and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who visited Serbia as a part of his tour of Eastern Europe and the Balkans on Wednesday, Molla-Abdollahi added, "The eagerness for learning Persian in Eastern Europe and Balkans in general and in Serbia in particular is unprecedented. This is a good and serious ground for promoting relations."
Offering Persian language courses in the university has laid grounds for upgrading ties in other spheres, so that it is now considered as a prelude for boosting bilateral relations, especially in the tourism and economic sectors, he said.
Persian language is taught at Belgrade University in the form of two elective units. Given the growing interest of students in the subject, creating an independent course of Persian language is on the university's agenda.
