President Rouhani attended the ceremony of renewing allegiance to the Late Imam Khomeini (RA) alongside the members of the cabinet and said: "The 12th Administration is ready to meet people's demands with more experience and hope and firmer resolve".
Speaking on Sunday at Imam Khomeini's (RA) tomb, he said: "Imam [Khomeini] taught us that we must believe in people alongside our belief in God and religion and that implementing divine commandments is only possible through people's support, trust and devotion".
"Imam brought Islam and the republic system together for the people and taught us that religion and implementing divine commandments have no conflict with national sovereignty and democracy," he added.
The president also said: "Imam always paid attention to people's concerns, demands and needs and considered the deprived as having more important roles than the wealthy".
Dr Rouhani also went on to say: "In Imam Khomeini's (RA) point of view, people's greatness and dignity was very important and he never accepted the great Iranian people's abjection and when he felt that foreign domination was about to happen, undermining people's freedom, he lost his patience".
"The constitution, people's votes and elections, a free parliament, a powerful administration and the independence of the judiciary are all left by the Late Imam for us," the President continued.
He also went on to say: "Imam taught us that we must start ruling by referendum. He cleared the way for people to go to the ballot box in order to strengthen the political system".
"If it were not for our free elections and Imam's words that "the yardstick is people's votes", may be today we were not about to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution".
After 4 years of hard work by the 11th Administration, the people of Iran once again gave the responsibility to the 12th Administration, said Rouhani adding: "The 12th Administration is ready to meet people's demands with more experience and hope and firmer resolve".
He continued: "What is important is that people's hope to the future and their support and trust in the administration must stay".
"If the Supreme Leader's guidance stays with us and people support us, we will surely overcome issues," Dr Hassan Rouhani continued saying.
We are not afraid of foreign threats and conspiracies, said the President adding: "During the 8-year war, which all powers and aggressors were working against Iran, Imam did not show any sign of disappointment and weakness, teaching us how a nation can show firm resolve against conspiracies".
Stating that there is no time for trial and error, Dr Rouhani added: "We must do the basic work stronger than before in this four-year term".
At the same ceremony, the Custodian of the Tomb of Imam Khomeini, Hassan Khomeini said: "We are confident that Dr Rouhani, more than anyone else, understands the great burden that the people have put on the shoulder of the administration".
"Today, our society has more hope and ready to overcome hardships that have been created because of different reasons," Khomeini added.
