President Rouhani officially marked the start of 96-97 school year by ringing the bell of a school in Tehran.
The ceremony also marks the start of operation of 146 new educational projects. This year, 13 million students will be attending schools across the country.
The official ceremony was held at Shahid Modarres Vocational School in western Tehran with about 1.3 million first-year students.
Dr Rouhani will deliver a speech after the symbolic bell ringing ceremony, raising the Mehr Question (the question of the school year) to the students.
