Rabat to host Islamic Conference of Environment Ministers

The Conference, which brings together the environment ministers of the OIC Member States along with representatives of the international and regional organizations concerned, will be held under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, with the presence of Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, as guest of honor, ISESCO reported.
The conference is co-organized by ISESCO and the General Presidency of Meteorology and Environment Protection (PME) of Saudi Arabia, in coordination with the OIC General Secretariat.
The participants will examine a variety of items, including a draft document on Environment Governance for Environment Sustainability in the Islamic World, the draft updated versions of the Strategy for Integrated Water Management in the Islamic World and the General Framework of the Islamic Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the draft Islamic Declaration on Environment Protection and Sustainable Development, along with the reports on the 3rd meeting of the Islamic Executive Bureau for Environment (IEBE), on the progress made towards the establishment of the Islamic Academy for the Environment and Sustainable Development, and on the Project for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Award for Environment Management in the Islamic World.
At the close of the conference, the participants will elect the IEBE members and fix the date and venue of Conference’s seventh session.
The Conference’s sixth session takes on paramount importance as it will examine several reference documents aimed at developing joint Islamic environmental action at the level of OIC Member States, and coordinating their participation in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change to be held in Paris in December this year.
