Reinforcing national, religious and revolutionary identities is among our issues in education

Pointing out the events of Bahman 1357 (February 1979) he stated, "today is 19th Bahman (8th February). The history of the Islamic Revolution could be considered as an instance of the holy Verse of Alfatah (victory). The Iranian Air Force personnel representing all divisions of armed forces pioneered showing unity with the nation and agreement with the revolution on this day. Hadn't they done so, winning of the revolution could have happened later."

He added, "this event showed that the bulk of the army was sympathetic towards people. This fact was also revealed through the slogans of 'May army die for people' by soldiers and 'May people die for army' by people on the other hand during the Sacred Defense (Iran-Iraq war 1980-1988).

Dr Mohammadian said, "today the bulk of the army is, as the commanders are sympathetic and unified, therefore we host the Navy on behalf of the entire armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, all of whom we are proud of.

"Reinforcing national, religious and revolutionary identities is one of our issues in education. Promotion, preservation and consolidation of identities are of essential matters. Among factors generating social identity is the national power and national power, in turn, has an obvious and direct relation with military capability", he continued. He added, "powerful countries have powerful armed forces, however the source of power of our armed forces is their faith, ideals and solidarity with people."

Pointing out the significance of the Navy he said, "the Navy has a special standing among the armed forces. According to the interpretation of the supreme leader and commander-in chief of the armed forces, the Navy is a strategic armed force for the I.R. of Iran and its performance has produced an image for everyone that we have sovereignty not only over our inner soil but also over our coasts and waters. As we step on our land, we are present in our waters and as we hold military parades on the land we hold them on the sea too."

Hojattoleslam Dr Mohammadian added, "the Navy of the I.R. of Iran proved able to take a role not only in the territorial waters but also in the international waters. Their presence in the international waters generates capability and as a result enhances national power and pride."

The Head of the OERP continued, "what is happening in our Navy, Air Force, Army and radar and missile systems indicates as if a huge university has developed throughout our armed forces. In addition to the case of national identity, one of our duties in the educational system, at least at the secondary education level, is to try to advise and direct our outstanding student talents to suitable universities and technical-professional centers."

"We have compiled five textbooks in cooperation with the Navy as an attempt to create educational contents in recent years. I had a negotiation with the Navy yesterday and I found out that there has been special attention to Makran Coast. Makran has its own story and our geography team has done an effort on understanding of provinces including Makran coast. I hope that the Ministry of Education will inaugurate a technical school in Makran Coast with the assistance of Admiral Sayyari.", he added.

He further added, "disciplines of science and techniques in the fields of navigation, electronics, mechanics and marine engines already exist. The keywords utilized in textbooks generate a marine culture. In this regard, the keywords and topics such as shipping, marine transportation, living on the coasts, Navy, international maritime law, meteorology, environment, marine life etc. have been used more than 450 times in school textbooks. Each keyword introduces a different atmosphere and a different culture. For instance all ports have been located on the map of Iran in the textbook of six graders."

Hojjatoleslam Mohammadian also noted, "progress of the armed forces, particularly the Navy, has been mentioned in the defense preparedness textbook and since we are proud of the Persian Gulf, the name of Persian Gulf has been repeated 590 times throughout various school textbooks."
