Scientific, research agreements reached between Iran, Iraq universities

The Iranian delegation consists of chancellors of 10 accredited Iranian universities and is headed by acting minister of science, research and technology.
Chancellor of Baghdad University Ala Abdul-Hossein Abdu-Rasoul signed the agreement with Elm-o-Sanat (science and industry) and Yazd universities. Baghdad University will expand its academic cooperation with other Iranian universities in a later stage.
The ministry official, Hossein Salari-Amoli said that Iran and Iraq are two neighboring countries with many cultural, social and religious commonalities. Expansion of bilateral scientific relations can help further deepen their mutual ties, he added.
He referred to the good scientific infrastructure in Iraq and noted that despite prevailing chaos and insecurity here, the country enjoys favorable scientific capacity.
Meanwhile, after signing the agreement, Baghdad University chancellor said that at the initial stage of the agreement, fellowships will be exchanged in fields of engineering, communications and science. Later, he added, students and professors will be exchanged between the two countries and a permanent connection will be established between the sides.
The University of Baghdad, established in 1957, is the largest university in Iraq and ranks 18th among the 100 distinguished universities in the Arab world. It is the only Iraqi university that has been included in the world universities ranking. It has 24 schools in various fields of science.
