Scopus reports 2 steps improvement for Persian as scientific lang.

Mohammad Javad Dehghani, Head of Islamic World Science Citation Database (ISC), added that about 92 per cent of scientific papers in 2015 were published in English. Chinese language holds the second place in most-published scientific papers with 4 per cent share in the academic publishing.

Following Chinese are Spanish, German and French each with 1 per cent share of published scientific articles. The Japanese language comprises 0.5 per cent share, while Portuguese and Russian dominate about 0.4 per cent of the published articles.

“Italian language comes in after Russian with 2 per cent, while Turkish, Polish, Korean, Czech, and Danish each hold a 0.1 per cent share of the publication. About 0.06 per cent of science production in the world is in Persian language,” he said.

Dehghani further maintained that the Persian language ranking in 2009 as a scientific language at international level stood at 30. In 2010, the ranking was improved to 28, and in 2011 to 24. Persian language ranked 22nd in 2012 and 17th in both 2013 and 2014. The 2015 ranking for Persian language has had two steps improvement and is currently placed at 15th.
