Spanish university to translate Rumi’s Masnavi

Argentine publisher El Hilo de Ariadna will also collaborate in the translation of the collection, the Autonomous University of Madrid announced last week, Tehran Times reported.

Nadereh Farzamnia, an Iranian professor of the Persian language at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies and Oriental Studies of the Faculty of Arts, was commissioned to translate the work.

Farzamnia previously translated several works of contemporary Persian literature into Spanish, including Mahmud Dowlatabadi’s novel “The Colonel”.

This will be the first time that the Masnavi-ye Manavi is translated into Spanish directly from its original Persian version.

The Masnavi-ye Manavi (“Spiritual Couplets) is composed of six books of spiritual poems, which widely influenced Muslim mystical thought and literature.
