He added, 'the goal of teaching the Quran in the first three years at primary level is to get familiarized with it and in the next three years the goal for them is to be able to read it and to accustom to it while in the first three years at secondary level Arabic is taught to facilitate understanding the Quran and in the next three years the goal for them is to understand the Quran so that a student can quote a few verses from the Quran or a few Hadith during arguing or reasoning.'

He criticized Koranic memorizing competitions and said, 'although memorizing is important we must be aware that the Quran is a book for living and it must be our guide in every aspect of life.'
