TEFL scholar introduces new model for learning enhancement

He made the announcement in an address to the first ever international conference of Iran English Language Teachers Association (IELTA), which is being held at Tehran’s Parsian Azadi Hotel from February 8-10.

The event, themed “Global Innovation to Local Implementation,” is attended by more than 700 domestic and foreigner scholars and professors of English language teaching.

The IELTA 2017 won support of the world class organizations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

Noting that testing needs to be integrated in an ongoing process, Professor Farhady defended his LOA model for removing shortcomings of former models as they failed to “take language teachers to the promised land.”

“We are still struggling with providing a workable framework for language teachers in practice,” said the professor.

He added, “Testing need to be integrated in an ongoing process called assessment where teachers should play a central role. The concept was coined and popularized as an alternative to testing, but later many categories such as classroom assessment, formative assessment, dynamic assessment and portfolio assessment were evolved.”

Professor Farhady, 70, has been active for more than 40 years in studying, teaching and researching inside and outside Iran. He has trained many applied linguistics and university lecturers.
