Tehran to host 12th Int'l Symposium of Public Relations

Announcing this, the symposium's secretary general said that the gathering is to be held in cooperation with International Public Relations Association (IPRA), which is headquartered in London and has 1,200 members from 110 countries.

Houshmand Sefidi further said that the symposium has been held in Tehran annually since 2006 with a special motto. This year's motto is 'Public Relations and Change for Progress'.

The mottos chosen for this symposium in recent years were: 'Public Relations and Social Asset', 'Public Relations and Cultural Engineering', 'Smart Public Relations' and 'Public Relations With Studies of Public Opinion'.

In addition to domestic professors, foreign experts and professors and head of IPRA have taken part in this symposium each year, he said.

He continued that some 55 foreign professors and 55 Iranian professors have participated in the symposium and presented their papers since its first edition. A majority of the professors were from the US, Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, Russia and the Netherlands, he added.

The symposium is open to all, but registration is required, he said.

"This year, the event will have 500 participants. In addition, out of the submitted articles, eight have been approved: Four from Iranian professors and participants, four from foreign professors of whom two are from England, one is from the Netherlands and one is from Bulgaria."

He said the participants would sign the achievements as final resolution at the end of the symposium. It will be put on the international website of Public Relations as 'Tehran Declaration', he added.

"International congresses and gatherings of Public Relations are held across the world with discussions focusing on various issues. Iran is one of major organizers of such seminars annually."

On the status of Public Relations in Iranian organizations and entities, he said Public Relations, as key pillars for information dissemination and transparency of public opinion, have not performed successfully. Further efforts should be made in this respect, he added.

Expressing satisfaction over establishment of Public Relations House on May 16, he said: "We intend to launch public relations guild in cooperation with this house to promote transparent information dissemination of various entities and organizations to people and reporters."

He said in addition to launching Public Relations Guild in Iran, a bill on public relations has been drawn up to increase the administrative ability of those in charge of public relations to disseminate news and information to the people. The bill will be presented for ratification to the Parliament's Cultural Commission within a few days, he added.

If the bill is ratified, it will mark the first time such a step has been taken in Iran, he concluded.
