Tehran hosting Nordic Cultural Week

The Nordic art expo, which is being held at Iranian Artists House in Tehran, features a joint exhibition of photographs, posters, movies and paintings from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. It will continue through June 16.

The Nordic countries are a region in Northern Europe and the North Atlantic. It includes eight countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Åland Islands, the Faroe Islands and Greenland.

Since the Nordic countries have much in common, they have extensive cooperation in various fields.

In an interview with Tehran-based English newspaper, Iran Daily, Norwegian Ambassador in Tehran Aud Lise Norheim, said the expo is a suitable opportunity for introducing art and culture of the Nordic countries to Iranians.

She explained that strengthening cultural and artistic interactions has helped boost unity among the Nordic countries in the past years.

'Organizing the expo is the first step to expand mutual interactions with Iran,' she said, hoping, 'We can hold more mutual programs in the future.'

Referring to Iran's cultural richness, Aud Lise Norheim said Iran can hold more exhibitions and cultural programs with the help of its embassies throughout the world to introduce itself to the world.

Head of the Department of Culture in the Nordic Council of Ministers Mikael Hoysti also told Iran Daily that 25 million people living in the Nordic countries speak eight official languages of the world.

He explained that the Nordic parliamentary cooperation forum was established in 1952, noting, 'We have allocated common financial resources for growth of the countries in cultural, economic and health factors.'

Hoysti added that since Nordic officials aim to acquaint the youth of their countries with the culture of other states, they also assigned resources for promoting ties with states outside the Nordic region.

'Five houses of culture were founded across the Nordic countries which offer financial aid and grants to countries keen on establishing stronger cultural relations with Nordic countries,' he said.

He said Norway holds a music festival each year, noting the event was attended by Iranian musicians last year while some other Iranian artists will participate this year.

In addition, Hoysti said the Nordic Council of Ministers held a tour, titled 'Travel', for Iranian authors recently.

He also explained that some books, films and music pieces from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden will be presented at the ten-day expo in Iranian Artists House.

Prominent Finnish photographer Kirsi Mackenzie is among the special guests of the event and will display her photos from landscapes in Nordic countries.

Mackenzie hoped to take photos of Iran's pristine landscapes.
