In its 197th session, UNESCO executive board permitted the 38th session of UNESCO General Conference to pass the proposal for establishment of an international center for the integrated management of watershed and bio-resources in arid and semi-arid regions in the Islamic republic of Iran.
As a country that is located in an arid and semi-arid region, Iran has valuable and excellent experiences in adapting to difficult climatic conditions, sustainable use of soil and water resources, indigenous knowledge of conservation and the storage of precipitation.
As such, Iran proposed in 2014 the establishment of an international center for the integrated management of watershed and bio-resources in arid and semi-arid region under the auspices of UNESCO in Tehran.
It is said that the center will become a platform that accommodates watershed management soil conservation, natural resources, rainfall storage, desert and dust control, climate change and agriculture for sustainable development among other things.
The 38th session of UNESCO General Conference will take place in the French capital of Paris on 3-18 November 2015.
