UNESCO registers Kulliyyāt-i Saʽdi on Memory of the World

The 12th meeting of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the Memory of the World program held in Abu Dhabi October 4-6, and two new Iranian artworks were registered on the list for documentary heritage.

The IAC is the peak body responsible for advising UNESCO on the planning and implementation of the Memory of the World Program as a whole comprising 14 members serving in a personal capacity, appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO, and chosen for their authority in the field of the safeguarding of documentary heritage.

The IAC meeting was held to assess the overall progress of the program and to consider the proposed world’s documentary heritage to register on Memory of the World list.

At the 12th meeting, 87 works from 61 countries had been submitted and eventually two Iranian literary works were registered, Kulliyyāt-i Saʽdi and Estakhri's Al-Masaalik Wa Al-Mamaalik.

Estakhris's great book was submitted by the Islamic Republic of Iran & Germany for inclusion in the Memory of the World Register in 2014.

The Memory of the World Register lists documentary heritage which has been recommended by the International Advisory Committee and endorsed by the Director-General of UNESCO, as corresponding to the selection criteria regarding world significance and outstanding universal value and So far, a total of 9 Iranian artworks have been registered on the list.
