UNHCR Appreciates Iran for 386 Thousand Foreign National Students Attending 25 Thousand Iranian Schools

Fani welcomed Grandi, congratulated him on his new office and wished him more success.

Grandi informed him that it was his first trip to Iran since he took his present office in order to extend cooperation with Iran on refugees' affairs.

He appreciated Iran for the valuable services provided for Afghan and Iraqi refugees during the past 37 years, a big portion of which has been educational services for their school children. He pointed to technical skills programs for foreign national students as well as their parents run by ministry of education and remarked that such programs are of key strategies of UNHCR that can be copied by other countries.

Admitting that 1.5 million dollars annual assistance of the UN for the refugees residing Iran cannot suffice, he promised to make efforts to raise more budget from international aid donors.

Fani emphasized humanitarian policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and added that the worthy services for refugees have been provided despite serious constraints.

It is worth mentioning that the total annual cost of educational services offered to refugees in Iran has been estimated to exceed 200 million dollars.
