To mark World Breastfeeding week from Aug. 1 to Aug. 7, Medical Sciences University of Tehran held a breastfeeding promotion conference.
During the event the message from Ezio Gianni Murzi, Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, was read in which he praised the policies taken by Iran government for supporting new mothers at work especially the new law to extend the delivery leave to 9 months.
Content with maternity protection policies of Iranian government, Murzi said the UNICEF is very upbeat that Iran values breastfeeding and supports working mothers, MNA reported.
Each year, the week is organized around a theme and the theme for 2015—”Breastfeeding and Work: Let’s Make It Work!”—is designed to help promote policies that make it easier for women to breastfeed and work at the same time. This year, the week will be celebrated in 176 countries.
The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of an infant’s life.
