University of Tehran hosts IELTI 8

Distinguished professors from outstanding Iranian universities such as University of Tehran and Allameh Tabataba'i University as well as universities of Shahid Beheshti, Khatam, Mashhad, Shiraz, Isfahan and Urmia had taken part in the meeting.

Addressing the inaugural session, Proessor Sayyed Mohamnad Alavi, the chair of scientific board, outlined ways and means of addressing the social, political, psychological, and educational challenges facing English language teaching in Iran.

Professor Alavi said a total of 131 papers and 20 posters, all dealing with the theme of the conference, were presented.

Also addressing the meeting, the Dean of Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures Dr. Ali-Reza Valipour hoped that the implications of the research findings will fit the English language teaching and assessment contexts in Iran.

The participants in the seminar discussed issues related to future directions of applied linguistics research, more specifically, innovations in teaching, testing, teacher education, and materials development.

The one-day meeting, themed 'Future Directions in Applied Linguistics Research: Local and Global Perspectives', focused on EAP/ESP, literacy criticism, English language curriculum, language policy and planning, teacher training and education, approaches and methods in ELT, language testing and evaluation, new horizons in applied linguistics, discourse analysis and pragmatics, critical discourse analysis and pragmatics, culture and literature in English education, translation studies and language teaching, applied linguistics and language education, CALL/MALL/Technology in language teaching, linguistics/psycholinguistics/sociolinguistics, multimedia and ICT in English education, language learning and acquisition, literature and language teaching and new horizons in applied linguistics.
