French tourist: Iran safe for foreign tourists

"We started our tour of Iran from the northwest of the country in a bid to work out a different route for our journey," said 68-year-old Florence Bourel and a retired employee of the Louvre Museum in France who along with a group of European tourists had started its Iran tour from the provincial capital Tabriz, in East Azerbaijan, IRNA reported.

Bourel said that security in the country as well as its rich historical backdrop encourages every tourist, who has once visited the country, to undertake his/her journey again.

Hugo Manisey, another member of the group, described his journey to Iran as an unbelievable experience.

"Iranian people receive us with kindness and are very eager to speak to us," the 65-year-old tourist said.

Rahim Yazdandoust, a tour leader who guides French tourists, said tourism is a promising industry in Iran.

He said Iran has unique cultural heritages. Since it is on list of tourism destinations of travel agencies, easing visa procedures is a must, he added.

The French group visited historical sites of Tabriz, Kandovan and Maragheh.

East Azarbaijan Province enjoys a cool and dry climate. It is a mountainous region.

Tabriz is the most important city of the province. The province has common borders with Azerbaijan Republic, Armenia and Nakhchivan.

The highest peak of East Azerbaijan is Sahand Mountain which stands at an altitude of 3,722 meters.
