Paleolithic vestiges found in western Iran

According to the Research Institute of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, the head of the exploration team in Kalag, Mahmoud Mir-Eskandari said the area is among the historical monuments of the city of Sirvan in Ilam Province which was submerged following the construction of Seymareh Dam.

He added, "The Archeology Institute placed the salvage operation on its agenda in view of the importance and antiquity of Kalag area as well as the risk posed to the area due to the watering of the dam."

Mir-Eskandari pointed to the principled and definite studies to discover the sublime values and position of the area in archeological studies of the region (given the chronology and cultural periods and expansion of the area) and the need to plan for further studies prior to the damming of the river were among the targets that were pursued during the salvage exploration in the ancient area.
