“The museum exhibits remains of invertebrates such as echinoderms, trilobites, end stomachs, ammonites, amphipods and ammonites, and neutrophils,” said Sasha Reyhani-Moqaddam, a provincial tourism official.
The museum also holds educational workshops on fossils and sedimentation as well as multimedia training courses for different age groups, he said.
“We hope that this rich fossil treasure can cater to the scientific knowledge of students and even the general public.”
“Due to the unique nature of the samples, the museum can be the center for the exchange of information and research on macrofossils in the country. It is ready to cooperate with international authorities and universities as well,” the official explained.
The oasis city of Yazd is wedged between the northern Dasht-e Kavir and southern Dasht-e Lut on a flat plain ringed by mountains. Its historical structure enjoys a very harmonious public-religious architecture that dates from different eras.
