Using passive defense concepts in textbook content; from home safety to natural disaster management

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of the Educational Research and Planning Organization, the content of textbooks shows that concepts related to safety, accident prevention, and preparedness against natural and human threats have a special place in the country's education system.

In elementary grades, the topics of "safety in the alley and at home," "firefighting," "road safety," and "emergency measures during earthquakes and volcanoes" are presented in the form of experimental science and social studies lessons in a practical manner that is appropriate to the students' understanding.

In the first and second years of secondary school, passive defense concepts are taught in a more specialized way. The ninth and tenth grade defensive readiness book, with titles such as "Passive Defense," "Earthquake Preparedness and Safety," "Rescue and Relief," and "Recognizing and Countering Soft Warfare," aims to raise students' awareness of methods for protecting lives, property, and infrastructure.

In geology, human and environmental studies, and geography courses, teaching concepts such as "natural hazard management," "earth dynamics," "environmental protection," and "human responsibility toward nature" helps strengthen students' scientific and environmental attitudes.

The 12th grade health and safety book also covers topics such as preventing domestic accidents, poisoning, fires, and suffocation, along with self-care recommendations, teaching students the practical skills necessary to face everyday dangers.

Passive defense is a manifestation of national intelligence against threats and crises. A concept rooted in rationality, predictability, and preparedness. Teaching this concept from an early age helps strengthen "danger perception," "safe behavior," and "decision-making ability in critical situations" among students, preparing them to play an effective role in the future of the country.

The presence of passive defense concepts in textbooks is not limited to teaching theoretical concepts. Passive concepts, by designing group activities, scientific projects, situational exercises, and integrated discussions, pave the way for developing life skills, responsibility, and a spirit of cooperation in students.

In recent years, the Educational Research and Planning Organization, in collaboration with specialized institutions in the fields of safety, crisis management, and passive defense, has taken effective steps to strengthen educational content. The organization believes that education is the most effective tool for preventing injuries and reducing losses in critical situations.

Raising public awareness, teaching safe behaviors, and strengthening decision-making skills in difficult situations are the keys to ensuring the sustainability, security, and health of society. The Educational Research and Planning Organization seeks to create a generation that is aware, capable, and prepared against natural and human threats.
